Mechanical Strength: Epoxy polyester resins exhibit excellent mechanical properties. For example, adding polyester enhances the impact strength significantly compared to pure epoxy, which can increase impact strength by over 250% and fracture strength by 127% when modified appropriately (Luo et al., 2011).
Thermal Stability: The thermal stability of epoxy polyester blends is enhanced by polyester. For instance, blends with polyester show improved thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, and a slight reduction in glass transition temperature. The decomposition temperature of these resins can improve by about 20°C with the proper addition of polyester (Ali et al., 2021).
Processing Ease: One of the significant advantages of epoxy polyester resins is their ability to be processed easily at ambient temperature with a low viscosity and easy molding properties, making them suitable for diverse applications in coating and composite materials.
Environmental Resistance: These resins show excellent resistance to water, chemical corrosion, and UV degradation, making them ideal for use in harsh environments. The blend of polyester in epoxy helps improve chemical resistance, a feature critical for applications like automotive and construction materials (Torrón et al., 2016).
Adhesion: Epoxy resins provide superior adhesion to various substrates, including metals, plastics, and glass, while polyester increases the resin's ability to adhere to fibrous materials (Oliveira et al., 2019).
